Firstly, I have done some more to the experimental re-interpretation of a still life that I was doing in my last blog. I have built up the colours with thin washes of red, orange and blue and have simplified the shape of the two large verticals. I am more pleased with the outcome than I expected.
Picking a load of sunflower heads to dry and save the seeds, I thought about the jagged, damaged shapes of the mature leaves and started this pastel study.
It is a mixture of almost abstract, random lines and strong 3-d forms.
Attacking the drawing with blue for the dark areas and a variety of other colours. I rubbed some white in to lighten areas that were becoming too dark. I fixed it well before going on to the next phases.
More of the same. There is still a way to go to get a strong sense of the form.
I have taken some more photos of dry sunflower leaves with a view to experimentation on the laptop
Increased the colour and contrast.
Added a reflection.
Altered it.
Distorted it with ripple effect.
Simplified the edges with a cartoon effect.
A high saturation close up.
