I wonder if many of you watched Grayson Perry's Art Club last night?
It was on the theme of Fantasy. I agreed with much of sentiment expressed, especially about the importance of playfulness and relaxation in the art process.
I do worry that fantasy risks aimlessness and triviality, but it is an important aspect of art.
I used to do a lot of open-ended drawings that evolved from a few scribbles. I have been rather embarrassed by them over recent years. Did they become pretentious?
There are so many of them-
The above goes back to late 60s or early 70s.
I think the following were late 70s or early 80s

The following was an experiment from a small doodle where I drew around some of my writing then did an enlarged paint sketch of the abstract shapes that I found-
The next one is a watercolour experiment, letting colours merge freely, adding some rectangles and developing some areas with a small brush-
All the above are from at least 35 years ago.
On the looking ahead side, tonight on BBC4 is Life Drawing for 2 hours. I might have a go.

Scary. You have the book The Waking Dream which I suspect of influencing some of this? And then there's Dali moments. I knew you when you drew these - and you weren't a scary person. Weird.
