Following on from the last blog, as promised I have been doing a painting from one of the monochrome photos
I drew out quickly with thin ultramarine blue. I then re-drew with thin vermilion red-
I am using colour in a free way, with no attention to "real" colour. I then added some orange yellow, and used more of the blue and red
To get more tonal structure I added some thick heavy body titanium white-
I concluded with more of each colour, trying to be aware of tonal differences and overall balance
I shall leave it here, as I am aware that the impact of the image is threatened by overwork. I am quite pleased. It seems to me that there is a poetic quality about an empty chair, particularly one that clearly has been recently used. I am reminded of Van Gogh's Yellow Chair.
