Thursday April15. More thoughts on trees and roots.

I start with yet another invented charcoal drawing.

Trees and roots are so expressive. In doing some research on Van Gogh I found this marvellous painting done in his last year-

Since Van gogh always worked in front of nature, I did the next best thing and downloaded some photos from the internet. Two of the photos I have combined into this larger A2 charcoal drawing-

I'm not sure about this. Too much time has been spent adjusting and fiddling. At the moment it seems that a better thing for me to be doing is to invent quickly without being too much in control. Here are the 4 drawings from 3 weeks ago-

Yet real trees are so good. I took this photo this morning, from my allotment, of the large hornbeam that was trimmed last year-

I finish with images of my allotment. Just wait till the summer!

And this showing the gate to the garden plus my compost heap. Its all a kind of art.........
