Sunday, September 13. More.

I started two small canvases figures a few days ago based on masked figures found on the internet. Having been very unsure as to what I wanted from them I decided to attack them with some bright colour. The last thing I wanted was photographic naturalism, so this approach had a touch of anger behind it. Firstly the “testing “ image as it was 2 blogs ago-

I built up the tones with Windsor blue, and started more freely with cadmium red-

And more-

Then I used a colour that I have been a bit scared of lately, cadmium yellow, along with white and more blue to build up the contrast. I used a brush which was a bit big for a small canvas. That helps avoid fussiness.

The other small canvas is more of a rambling composition, involving two different photos.

Feeling cross with it, I slapped on some yellow and red.

Still feeling my way as to what to do with the right hand side of the painting-

And more-

I felt the urge to add suggested figures in the background. It's getting a bit political now. Colour areas still a bit weak.

Made the sky darker. Not right yet. More to come.........

These are so powerful, Tony. Just hope we don't see too much of this in the coming months.
