Sunday, August 2. Small steps.

Writer's picture: Tony JacksonTony Jackson

Funny how progress can seem very slight. Two days ago I filled in all the areas in this painting and mentioned the importance of quiet reflection, and then making whatever changes may seem necessary. Well, after much agonised thought I have changed the colour of one area. More is needed but I am not sure what yet.

I have added one dark area to this abandoned painting from a couple of years ago. More will follow!

I have searched for the following for days. It is a painting from two or three years ago that took a long time. I ended up hating it. Thing is, after the lapse of a couple of years I still hate it. It became mechanical and rather out of control. Still I add it here – bad paintings are of interest-

In looking for the above painting I unearthed some old portrait studies that I do still like. The first is from a monochrome photo of an Indian man from about 20 years ago.

The next is of my father as a child. The source material was a very small studio photo from about 1915.
