I found a canvas that I had primed with dark brown a few years ago. So I drew out with red pastel and painted quickly with thin acrylic white, using quite a large brush.
Having let the first stage dry, I worked through again using various thin colours as well as white.
A repeat of the last stage. The image is building in layers. Some thicker blue or brown is used to darken a few areas.
More of each stage. I think I want it to stay “rough” at the top and the bottom, more developed in the middle. More to be done.
I went back to the laptop to play with the original photo a bit more. The first one used the “watercolour” effect.
The next one used the device that selects edges only. I also turned the saturation of colour to maximum.
I went back to the photo and turned up the contrast and increased darkness. It reveals more detail of form.
I then made up a composite image of the last 3 images plus my own painting.
In the last one I cloned small parts of the altered photos onto the image of my own painting. This is something I've not done before. Feel quite excited!
The poppy seed heads are quite creepy!
