Sorry about the gap since the last blog. Other things have cropped up, like getting daughter off to university, and my current “creative” job of redoing paths and fences on the allotment.
I have done a bit more to the painting of 3 figures in a setting. I have used more washes of red to darken the sky and some other areas. I may do more but I am looking for a change of direction.
I have done a varied range of work over the last few months, and have been looking at my “back catalogue” searching for more straightforward scenes done outdoors without the aid of photos. These are mostly old work done quickly while on holiday, like this old pencil drawing done overlooking Cheddar Gorge-
A watercolour in Torquay-
St Malo in Brittany-
The garden of a rented cottage in Devon-
The Lizard in Cornwall. A mixture of thin acrylic and aquarelle pencils-
Paphos in Cyprus. I think I finished this off later with the aid of a photo. Mostly done on site.
Somewhere on the North Devon coast-
A commission closer to home- near Rickmansworth.
I have to recognise that most people I know like an approach to a subject that is unassuming and that “pays homage” to the scene. It gets self and cultural ambitions out of the way a bit. We should all go back to that regularly.
