On Wednesday I did a demo in Pinner. First live appearance for about 16 months. I set up a still life group of larger objects since my audience was spread out across the hall.
I started painting in thin phthalo blue acrylic. Broad strokes, just trying to summarise.
Keeping to blue and heavy body titanium white I built up the tones.
Colour was gradually added, starting with magenta red
As the session rolled on I added other touches of colour, cadmium yellow as well as cadmium red and more blue and white. By the end of the demo it was unresolved and turning a bit muddy.
Later at home, using the photo of the objects, I realised that there were several errors in the drawing. I have tried to make some corrections, but there is no point in going for total accuracy. I have tried to simplify the forms and use some outlining in blue paint, a bit like the post-impressionist painters did. I may do some more.
I put some objects on the floor with the painting plus a more careful painting done a few years ago. I quite like the mix!
A few days ago I fancied to do a charcoal more figure drawing our of my head, no clear goal. Starting with the seated figure I added others and a composition came into existence.
I added more detail and tone.
The final outcome seems to be of some kind of insurrection with someone addressing the crowd.
Please find your own meaning. I havent drawn like this since I was a boy.
You are so talented , Tony. Loved the paintings of the musical instruments.
